Crossing a river on the way to the Cunca Rami waterfall

Getting there can truly be fun! The walk to the waterfall transitions from settled areas to less-populated agricultural environments. On the way your local guide can help you with a conversion with the local farmers. You can obtain insights on daily life of West Flores’ hinterlands or ask for directions.

Domesticated water buffalos, pigs and goats will be seen along the path. Rice fields, providing the opportunity to see rice cultivation at various stages of its growing cycle, are found along the scenic trek to the waterfall. Be sure to keep an eye out for the vanilla, avocado, bananas and cacao plantations located along the trail leading to the waterfall. A local guide will help identify plants and fruits that populate the walk through this Eden-like setting.

When fording the river leading to the waterfall you will pass by a popular swimming pool for local children. The river is fairly wide with water volumes that vary, depending on the season.

How to get there:

We recommend:
Take a two-day trip including both the crater lake (Sano Nggoang) and the waterfall (Cunca Rami). Attempting to fit both of these natural attractions into a single day is not recommended. While no accommodation is available in Werang, informal overnight stays - courteously offered by the local Catholic priest - are possible in the village of Nunang, next to the crater lake.
