West Manggarai Tourism Forum

The tourism sector, together with agriculture and fishery has been identified as the potential sectors to be developed by the local government. The tourism potential is closely linked to the UNESCO world heritage site Komodo National Park with its unique dragons as the major attraction point. Besides the unique Komodo Dragons the area offers one of the world’s richest marine environments and excessive number of tourism objects and attractions on the mainland. This area has a strong potential to become one of the most attractive destinations beyond Bali in the near future, offering Komodo & So Much More.   Considering the importance of the tourism industry to support the economic growth and recognizing the potential and risks of this fast tourism development, the local tourism stakeholders have established West Flores Tourism Forum in September 2008 as an umbrella organization to work together amongst all stakeholders with the aim to build and develop a better and more sustainable tourism industry in West Flores. It is expected that the forum will take basic functions and responsibilities of a destination management organization in the future. The board members of the forum consist of capable and highly dedicated personals from government and private sector, and the forum members are those existing business membership organizations (BMOs), associations and organizations related to tourism sector. The forum has earned the respect and support from the local government and all tourism stakeholders in this area.
